The Black Student Union will hold run-off elections today for the office of vice president. Elections will take place at the African American Culture Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Erica Washington, a biological sciences junior, and Derrick Petit, a political science and history sophomore, are running for vice president. They each received less than 50 percent of the vote in the primary election held March 16.
In the primary election, 172 students cast their ballots. Isaac Netters, director of the AACC, said that the candidates are hoping to attract voters with help from the Student Government campaign election workers, but they have not done any major advertising.
Washington told The Daily Reveille before the primary that she wants to help the BSU work more with the AACC and the Office of Multicultural Affairs. She also wants to ensure the future of the AACC.
Washington ran as an unofficial running mate of Shannon Harris, who was elected president.
Petit said he wants to use his skills from Student Government experience and connections to expand the BSU. He wants to expand recruiting and get more alumni involved with the BSU.
