The 15th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team will open up Southeastern Conference action when they travel to Alabama to take on the 22nd-ranked Crimson Tide (7-2) Friday at 2 p.m.
LSU (3-1) has opened up its season in impressive form. Its only loss was to top-ranked Illinois in Champaign, Ill.
This weekend’s matchup will showcase four nationally ranked players. Daniel Kiernan (No. 95) and Bryan Fisher (No. 105) lead the way for the Tigers, and Alabama’s Maxim Belski (No. 64) and Chris Gostek (No. 109) will attempt to open up SEC play with a Crimson Tide win. The LSU women’s tennis team (7-2) will play host to 22nd-ranked Alabama (8-1) in its first SEC match of the season Saturday at 4 p.m. at the W.T “Dub” Robinson Tennis Stadium.
The Lady Tigers were last in action two weeks ago when they lost a hard fought match to No.19 Texas A&M.
LSU took the match last year, beating Alabama 5-2 in Baton Rouge.
All-American Bruno Colosio (ranked No. 136 in the nation) and Tami Botts (No. 127) will lead the 32nd-ranked Lady Tigers into SEC play against the Crimson Tide.
“We are excited to begin SEC play,” said Alabama head coach Jenny Mainz. “I feel that the team is ready, and we have had some good matches to prepare us for our SEC schedule.”
LSU head coach Tony Minnis said the team is prepared for Alabama, and they have the talent to pull out the victory.
“I think it’s gonna be a dog fight,” Minnis said. “We’ve had battles with Alabama in the past, and it’s going to be a close, tough match.”
