And the new American Idol is … to be decided Friday night at Late Night LSU.
The Union Program Council will hold Late Night for the second time this semester in the Union tonight from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m.
The main event will be an American Idol competition. Anyone who has not signed up for the competition can do so until 10:30 p.m.
“We are trying to emulate the TV show as best we can,” said Jason Meier, Union program director.
Each contestant will have approximately 20 to 30 seconds to sing the song of their choice a cappella for the judges.
“We will hold auditions for as long as we need,” Meier said.
Meier said if the competition is not completed Friday night, it will continue at the next Late Night LSU.
If the preliminary auditions are finished, the contestants will sing karaoke for the following rounds.
The three judges will be from faculty, staff and students.
In addition to the American Idol competition, there also will be dance aerobics in the ballroom provided by Steve Hood from 10 p.m. until midnight. There also will be breakdancing in the Vieux Carre Room until 12:30 a.m.
For students interested in board games, the Legacy will be sponsoring its version of Cranium. The college bowl team who placed second in the regional tournament also will be on hand for a trivia contest.
