Chancellor Mark Emmert announced late Tuesday the University would not ask the legislature to increase the number of seats allowed for fund raising.
The University has recently been working on a proposal for state officials to allow it to use more than 12 percent of the seats in Tiger Stadium for fund raising.
The University wanted to place an unknown surcharge on certain seats within the stadium bowl.
Emmert said the decision came after speaking with state officials, board members and fans.
“We still have a very serious funding issue,” Emmert said. “We absolutely must find a solution for those needs. We will be spending the coming months determining how we will develop a funding stream.”
Though the University is not pursuing this action now, Emmert said it may need and want to pursue this action in the future
