Police arrested three individuals April 23 after they did not follow police directions.
An officer allegedly observed the three suspects walking across Tower Drive not in the crosswalk and in front of an oncoming vehicle, said LSUPD Lt. Lawrence Rabalais.
Rabalais said the vehicle braked so it would not hit the individuals, but as it passed, one person alleged hit the side of the truck with his hand.
The officers stopped the three individuals to discuss the incident, Rabalais said. The officer asked the three suspects for their driver’s licenses, but Levord Rose Jr., 18, of 2006 Camboronne Drive, New Orleans, did not have his license on him. The officer asked for his date of birth, name and social security number for identification. Rabalais said Rose gave the officer a number with 10 digits instead of 9, and after the officer asked him for his real number, Rose allegedly became irate and belligerent toward the officer.
The officer began to pat down Rose for weapons, when he allegedly pushed the officer backward. After several times of pushing Rose back on the car to subdue him, the officer handcuffed him and attempted to pat him down when Rose allegedly grabbed for his groin area, Rabalais said.
Additional units arrived at the scene, and they were able to place Rose in the car.
While the officer was trying to pat down Rose, Joseph May, 19, of 8637 Olive St., New Orleans, allegedly approached the officer to help his friend.
Rabalais said the officer told May several times to stay away or he would be placed under arrest. Police arrested May and issued him a misdemeanor summons for not crossing in a crosswalk.
The third individual, Mikal Causey, 18, 6414 Derbyshire Drive Apt. F, New Orleans, also allegedly tried to interfere. The officer told him more than four times to leave or he also would be arrested.
After the officer told him the last time, he allegedly sat on the curb next to the police car where they were trying to arrest the other two subjects. Police arrested Causey and issued him a summons for remaining after being forbidden.
Police booked Rose into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for resisting arrest, battery of a police officer and not crossing in a crosswalk.
In a separate incident April 27, police arrested an individual for filing a false police report.
Police were called to investigate a burglarized vehicle belonging to Benjamin Hilton, 19, 20167 Lovers Lane, Long Beach, Miss.
Hilton told police he was parked behind the Rec Center when someone burglarized his car, Rabalais said.
While one officer was speaking with Hilton, another officer went to the Rec to investigate the burglary. Residents near the Rec told the officer the individual broke the glass in his Explorer because he slammed the rear door.
The officer speaking with Hilton then began questioning him about the incident, Rabalais said.
Hilton admitted to breaking the glass accidentally, but he did not want to tell his father, and therefore he filed the police report.
Police arrested him and issued him a misdemeanor summons for criminal mischief by filing a false police report.
In an unrelated incident, police arrested a 44-year-old man for remaining after being forbidden.
While an officer was on surveillance detail April 19, he was requested to identify a suspicious person.
Police identified the subject as Eric Pugh of 715 E. Polk St., Baton Rouge.
Rabalais said Pugh had been stopped several times before and told not to return to campus without official business.
He was arrested and given a misdemeanor summons on the above charge.
In a separate incident the same day, police arrested Blake Prejean of 14926 Glenn Drive, Pride, La., for possession of alcohol.
Police observed Prejean walking on the sidewalk near the infirmary. He allegedly was carrying a can of beer and he appeared to be under 21, Rabalais said.
After police identified him, he was arrested and later issued a misdemeanor summons.
