Serranos Salsa Company will host a free concert starting at 4:30 p.m. Saturday to benefit Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, said Meg Perry, development director of Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge.
The idea for the benefit originated when local musician Russ Joffrion came to Perry wanting to do something to benefit people with cancer, Perry said.
The benefit will feature four different bands including Kirk Holder, Russ Joffrion with Voodoo Chili and Mark Stadler, she said.
The bands will play different kinds of music centering around the theme of “Rocking for Cancer,” Perry said.
The concert is free, and proceeds will come solely from private donations people will make while there, she said.
General manager John Dawson said he will offer incentives for donations.
Cancer Services is the philanthropy of Delta Delta Delta sorority and Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. The chapters have been promoting the event with fliers and other Greek-sponsored events, Perry said.
Zeta Tau Alpha sorority also has been helping to promote the event because its philanthropy benefits people with breast cancer, she said.
The bands will set up outside in the parking lot, similar to the block off Serranos has for football games, Dawson said.
