A pedestrian was injured while crossing the street Monday at the South Campus intersection near East Laville.
According to witness Rachel Jontz, an elementary education freshman, a driver stopped at the stop sign, turned left with “tires squealing” and hit Alexis Woods, a pedestrian crossing the street from East Laville.
The lower right side of Davis’ windshield cracked from the impact.
A bystander called the police and asked Woods if she was hurt. According to Jontz, Woods told the police her hip hurt.
Firemen, policemen and EMS arrived at the scene shortly after the accident. EMS affirmed that Woods was taken to a hospital for treatment.
According to LSUPD Capt. Mark Shaw, the accident report will be out at the end of the week.
Stephen Anderson, mathematics sophomore, said he saw a similar accident last year in the same area.
“Cars think they have the right of way,” said Anderson. “This is a pedestrian campus, and pedestrians’ rights should be honored. The problem is there is no crosswalk. How hard is it to paint a few lines?”
