The National Football Foundation released the first Bowl Championship Series standings on Monday afternoon. LSU is No. 12, mere percentage points from being ranked in the top 10 with a 26.54 point total.
The Tigers have not been seen in the BCS standings since being ranked No. 13 in November of last year after defeating Kentucky. Last year’s Tigers opened up at No. 9 in the rankings.
Three undefeated teams occupy the top three: Oklahoma, Miami and Virginia Tech.
Despite losing to LSU earlier in the year, the Georgia Bulldogs grabbed the highest spot of any team with a loss, No. 4.
The team with the lowest BCS point total grabs the top spot. No. 1 Oklahoma is significantly better than LSU with a 2.77. But LSU could break into the top 10 soon. No. 10 Northern Illinois only leads LSU by .54 while No. 11 Nebraska is on top of LSU by 0.9.
