Steve Danos, the man accused of breaking into several apartments near the University last month, turned himself in to authorities Sept. 30.
Police released a photo of Danos as well as a warrant for his arrest on Sept. 26, after he was named as the suspect in several apartment break-ins at University House and University Commons on the morning of Sept. 21.
In all of the incidents, Danos allegedly identified himself as “Steve” when confronted and claimed to be confused about his location.
Danos was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on seven counts of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, four counts of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and one count of simple battery.
Danos posted a $20,000 bond shortly after midnight Oct. 3 and was released, but he was sent back to Parish Prison later Oct. 3 after testing positive for marijuana.
Assistant District Attorney Wes Hataway said Danos pleaded guilty in a similar previous case and was placed on probation.
Hataway said Danos’ next court date is Oct. 21, when a judge will determine whether or not to revoke Danos’ probation. If his probation is revoked, Danos could be sentenced to up to six months in jail.
Hataway said as for the newest charges, prosecutors will review the case and file formal charges against Danos. Danos will be arraigned in court and enter a plea.
If Danos pleads not guilty, his trial will begin after all motions have been filed.
Hataway said he could not give a timetable as to when Danos’ trial would begin, but estimated it could be early next year.
