Better Than Ezra will perform at the PMAC tonight as part of Homecoming festivities. The event, “The Tiger Experience,” is a free concert for the public that immediately follows the Homecoming pep rally. Better than Ezra will cap off a full afternoon of entertainment including food, athletes and yelling.
In a previous article Staci Pepitone, assistant director of the LSU Union, said the UPC went through many musicians before booking the New Orleans trio. Sheryl Crow originally was scheduled to perform at the event, but days later she declined. Other musicians invited to “The Tiger Experience” included Everclear, Sugar Ray and Mya.
“We bid on a few acts, and they changed their minds,” Pepitone said. “Better Than Ezra was always on the list, and thankfully they were free to play. There is such huge draw for Better Than Ezra at LSU.”
She said it is not uncommon to make many bids on musicians for campus functions. For example, as many as 80 bids are made for Groovin’ on the Grounds.
During the pep rally there will be no floor access, and during the concert, floor access will be limited. Although there is no charge for the event, wristbands will be given at the door. The wristbands enable people access to the floor for the concert.
“People dying to be on the floor need to get there early for the wristbands,” Pepitone said. “When we’re out of wristbands, we’re out of wristbands.”
Pepitone said it will be a great show. She also said the band is excited to be invited to an event in their home state.
Better Than Ezra is currently working on their fifth CD while touring across the nation. This local band began their path to success in 1995 with thier debut album, “Deluxe.” Their success has continued with “Friction Baby,” “How Does Your Garden Grow” and “Closer.”
Their performance at “The Tiger Experience” is one of many events taking place. The Homecoming celebration will kick off at 4:30 p.m. with inflatable games and free food, said Homecoming 2003 Committee Chairman Jeremy Joiner.
The LSU Football Team, LSU Cheerleaders, Tiger Band and Golden Girls will be at the pep rally, Joiner said. Students are invited to support campus organizations in the yelling contest.
