Authorities have named a suspect in the rash of apartment break-ins near the University campus.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant Friday for 24-year-old Steve Danos.
According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Danos is wanted for one count of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, two counts of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and two counts of misdemeanor theft.
Danos’ last known address is 1136 Kenney Dr., Westwego, La. Authorities do not know his current address, but he is believed to live in the south Baton Rouge area.
Baton Rouge Police Cpl. Don Kelly said authorities “had a good idea from the beginning” that Danos might be a suspect in the case because Danos has been arrested for similar incidents in the past.
On Friday, Lt. Darrell O’Neal of the Sheriff’s Office said the department was working on tracking down numerous leads in the case.
Danos is suspected of breaking into several apartments in University House on Brightside Drive and University Commons on Burbank Drive on the morning of Sept. 21. He apparently entered through unlocked doors and windows.
In all of the incidents, Danos identifies himself as “Steve” when confronted and claims to be confused about his location when asked. He allegedly has stolen small items from the apartments, but his motive does not appear to be robbery.
Danos is said to have climbed into bed with some of the women, and one woman allegedly woke up to find Danos tracing circles on her back.
Anyone with information on Danos’ whereabouts is asked to call BRPD at 389-3824, the Sheriff’s Office at 389-5000 or LSUPD at 578-3231.
