The University currently is investigating the Sigma Nu fraternity for unspecified reasons.
Greek Affairs Director Victor Felts confirmed that the University is conducting an “ongoing investigation” of Sigma Nu.
Felts would not provide details of the investigation.
Sigma Nu president Sean Benoit said in an e-mail that the investigation stems from incidents during the last year.
In October 2003, Baton Rouge police arrested Sigma Nu member Kenneth Jones after an alleged rape following a Sigma Nu exchange party at Bogie’s.
There is no confirmation as to whether the incident is related to the current investigation.
Benoit said the University has not informed him of the exact events that occurred during the incidents.
However, Benoit said he thinks the fraternity is changing for the better.
“Since these occurrences, my chapter has made numerous changes in the positive direction,” Benoit said. “I feel that this investigation has helped on improving our brotherhood, and I know that these relationships will only strengthen in the future.”
Benoit said he was unaware when the investigation would conclude.
Neither Dean of Students Kevin Price nor a representative from the Sigma Nu national headquarters could be reached before press time.
