One week after winning the LSU Louisiana Classic, the Tigers will host the University of New Orleans tonight, which did not participate in the tournament.
LSU coach John Brady said after two games this past weekend, the Tigers have no need to make any adjustments. Since Sunday the team has worked on the usual game-to-game adjustments and trying to improve their set offense.
“They’re good, but they’ve got one person that we need to stop and the team will collapse,” said guard Tack Minor. “If we just play good defense, we’ll come out with the win.”
The Tigers scored an average of 83 points and are undefeated in two games. The UNO Privateers are 1-2 on the season and allowed 92, 71 and 73 points, respectively, in their first three games.
The team will make adjustments to tailor to UNO point guard Bo McCalebb, who has scored in double figures in all three of UNO’s games, including 29 points in their last game.
“The point guard from UNO is pretty quick, but I think our guys are pretty quick too,” Brady said. “We’re just going to be a bit more help-conscious on McCalebb.”
Tack Minor will take first assignment on McCalebb, but Darrell MItchell, Xavier Whipple and Antonio Hudson also will spend time defending McCalebb, who Mitchell said has improved drastically since they faced in high school.
“With a guy like him, you’ve got to stay conscious and aware,” Mitchell said. “He’s very good off the dribble, and they’re going to set a lot of dribbles off him.”
