The lights refracted sequin stars off her silhouette for one last time.
Taylor Swift wrapped up her highly acclaimed “The Eras Tour” on Dec. 8, 2024 in Vancouver, British Columbia. The dazzling tour was announced in 2022 as a journey through Swift’s era-filled career. With over 10 million fans attending the 149 shows performed over the past two years, many can’t help but wonder what is next for the super star?
“The Eras Tour” has consumed every inch of Swiftie social media since its announcement in November 2022; however, no mention of Swift is complete, without a theory on her next move to accompany it. The last few months of the tour have been a waiting game for fans as they anticipate the release of “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” and “Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version).”
Swift began re-recording her previous albums after the rights to her musical catalog were sold in 2019, and there are only two remaining albums left of her “Taylor’s Version.” Fans have begun to theorize how she will drop the news that the records are on their way.
Many Swifties were hoping for “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” to be announced on “The Eras Tour.” Fans took to the internet to suggest an outfit lineup that Swift would wear the night she announced the re-recording, in similar fashion to her announcement of “1989 (Taylor’s Version)” earlier on the tour. CNN reported this idea as the number one fan theory ahead of the final weekend, but it didn’t hold up by the end of the last show.
Others suspect that Swift will announce the release of both remaining albums on her birthday this Friday. Fans took to X (Twitter) to speculate what she has in store for the big day. In the past, Swift has typically done something special for her fans on her birthday.
The pop star has released special news on her birthday in the past. Last year on her birthday, she announced the release date of “The Eras Tour” film. Some fans theorize that Friday will bring the announcement of both remaining albums
Often referred to as “Debutation,” many fans are speculating that Swift will announce the release of “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” and “Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version)” at the same time. Swiftie’s have taken note of her frequent use of peace signs over the last few months of “The Eras Tour,” seemingly signaling a potential double release.
Others think the announcement of another Taylor’s Version album won’t come until 2025. Swiftie online have pointed out that since the announcement of Swift’s re-recordings, she’s followed a specific pattern. One year, two re-recorded albums were released. The next year, Swift releases a brand new album, then the cycle repeats.
After the smash release of “The Tortured Poets Department” in April 2024, and no re-recorded albums thus far, this theory would make sense for Swiftie’s “Debutation” dreams to come true next year.
LSU student and major Swiftie Elena Ramey says though she can’t believe “The Eras Tour” is over, she’s excited to see what Swift does next.
“These shows have been happening for so long, and I think its impact is going to be felt forever,” Ramey said. “We can probably expect a documentary of sorts on how the concert was created and how successful it was.”
Ramey isn’t far off. A documentary is expected to be released on the tour in the coming months after Swift was spotted being followed by cameras before and after multiple shows. Needless to say, swifties can’t wait to see what’s next now that “The Eras Tour” era has come to an end.
