Update: LSU’s campus has closed on Wednesday and Thursday, classes are slated to be remote.
LSU is still set to be open for classes Wednesday and Thursday, as per a Monday evening message broadcast by the Office of Communications and University Relations.
This message comes after the National Hurricane Center in Miami has forecasted Tropical Storm Francine to develop into a Category 2 hurricane before making landfall with the south-central Louisiana coast.
The Baton Rouge area is forecasted to be in the path of the storm. Heavy rainfall, flash flooding and “life threatening” storm surge conditions are expected.
The university said it is closely monitoring the storm and will be making decisions with safety in mind.
Residential buildings on-campus will remain open and LSU will continue to provide food to residents, but these students are advised to stock up on supplies because they should remain sheltered in place during the worst of the storm.
Parking and Transportation Services said some Tiger Trails bus routes may be affected. Riders should anticipate route adjustments and potentially road closures.
The university also advised students living off campus to likewise stock on supplies and to carefully conserve them.
Students should stay in touch with family and guardians.
This is a developing story. Check back later for more updates.
