LSU’s campus will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday but classes will be held remotely, the university announced in a Tuesday morning message broadcast. Campus closure begins at 4:30 p.m.
This comes after schools and local-municipal governments close and issue mandatory evacuations in response to Tropical Storm Francine, which is forecasted by the National Hurricane Center in Miami to make landfall in southeast or south-central Louisiana as a Category 2 hurricane with risk of surge, flash flooding, rain, high wind speeds and tornadoes.
On Monday evening, Gov. Jeff Landry declared a state of emergency and started mobilizing federal and state disaster task forces. Baton Rouge officials have mustered local task forces.
The Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Vet School and LSU Online will communicate separately about next steps for those students. The closure includes the University Laboratory School, the Early Childhood Education School and the Laboratory Preschool.
Residential halls and on-campus housing will remain open; residents should expect to shelter in place. Greek Life residents should closely monitor communications from Greek specific teams.
LSU’s buses will be suspended Wednesday and Thursday and dining halls may adjust hours of operation. The university recommends keeping up to date by checking relevant social media pages and the dining halls’ website.
