With the beginning of the Spring semester underway, it is very common for students to become stressed out with the overload of information on syllabus and just trying to get back into their school routines. While this may not be the first semester of college for many, everyone can still agree the first day jitters are real.
Professors warn students at the beginning of syllabus week to not get overwhelmed, but with all the deadlines for the entire semester being thrown at you in an hour long lecture, it’s hard not too.
But, don’t be scared there are tons of tips and tricks out their to help manage the stress and chaos. Also, do not feel alone in the first week because while you may be walking to class alone, 45% of college students feel high levels of stress during that first week of college.
LSU Alumnus and Student Coordinator for the Manship School of Mass Communications, Kyrin Lewis, knows those first day jitters all too well and shared his own tips on what he learned had really helped him throughout college, and has seen it help other students too.
“Invest in a planner,” Lewis said. “Definitely a planner where you can write everything down because a lot of times I know we see and we receive information in class or from our friends or advisors and different organizations.”
“And we are like ‘Okay cool, I am going to have it memorized.’ Then once you get home 30 minutes later and we are like ‘What did they say?’ So, definitely write your stuff down, have a planner, some sort of notebook or note sheet where you can write stuff out as it’s happening.”
