Jay Clark spoke to the media after No. 3 ranked LSU Gymnastics defeated No. 9 ranked Missouri in the PMAC 198.000-197.175 Friday. The win comes one week after the Tigers took their second loss to the season against Arkansas.
“The energy and intentionality they brought to the meeting this week and the drive was back, and it showed out there,” Head Coach Jay Clark said.
Although the Tigers came away with the win, Clark voiced his concerns about the current status of scoring in college gymnastics.
“The issue is not that I think scores should remain unduly high,” Clark said. “The issue is that this thing that we’ve put in place either intentionally or unintentionally only attacked one part of scoring.”
“We haven’t created a more consistent situation this year. We’ve created a more erratic situation here,” Clark said.
Clark also gave credit to Missouri Gymnast Helen Hu who scored a 9.975 on her beam routine.
“Helen Hu got a ten, that beam set is the best in the country and she did it flawlessly,” Clark said. “I dare anybody to tell me where the real deduction was.”
Despite that, the Tigers scored their first 198.000 of the season.
“I’m super pleased too with the whole meet really, there is still places to improve obviously,” Clark said.
With the win, the team advances to 5-2 on the season and remains undefeated at home this season.
