LSU Football Coach Brian Kelly spoke with the media in a press conference on noon Wednesday to discuss the new staff he has hired and new players on the team.
“We believe that this group now is such that we can compete for a championship,” Kelly said.
This offseason, LSU signed 16 transfer portal players including an elite freshman class with hopes to add more depth to the roster.
With Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier returning next year, Kelly has high hopes with the starting offense and spoke highly about the transfer portal players on the offensive side of the ball.
“I can tell you just by the numbers, they live up to what has been said about them,” Kelly said.
Kelly also spoke on the topic of former LSU player Gregory Brooks Jr. after an interview with him and his father on “Good Morning America” in which he expressed his thoughts about a certain comment Gregory Brooks Sr. stated about how Kelly was never there for his son.
“It is factually incorrect to state that I was not there by Greg’s side through this ordeal. I was there on multiple occasions. We had somebody from my staff who was there every single day.”
“We love Greg. We love him for the person that he is, for the competitor that he is and the battler that he is and can only wish him continued progress as he goes through an incredibly difficult time.”
Kelly would then end with how excited he is to build this new team and hopes that adding new depth to the roster will help them win a national championship this upcoming season.
