Having trouble accessing goods? The LSU Food Pantry is there for you when you need it most.
Located on the first floor of the Student Union, the pantry is available to all currently enrolled LSU students. It is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays.
With donations from stores like Whole Foods and Walmart, the pantry is able to provide free supplemental food so students can focus on academics and thrive in the campus community. If you’re interested in donating, there are bins in the Career Center, Campus Life office, and Student Government.
With convenience in mind, the pantry’s newly redesigned open format provides easier access to goods. Students no longer have to reserve time slots or pre-pick their food online. In January, the pantry distributed 29,000 pounds of food, and 7% of LSU students used the pantry during the fall semester. They hope this new layout will increase that percentage.
In order to keep the pantry running, volunteers are much needed. For the first time, the pantry will join a competition with other SEC food pantries in April and needs as many helping hands as possible to collect donations. Individuals and organizations can apply to volunteer.
“We do want to build a sense of community around the pantry, so we’re calling on volunteers to help us build that community up,” Manager of Campus Life Jennifer Cristina said. “Having other students here, helping form a community of people who care, is something that helps make other students who use the pantry feel comfortable and supported.”
