LSU softball’s freshman pitcher Jayden Heavener was named SEC Freshman of the Week after throwing a perfect game in her collegiate debut.
Heavener started her collegiate career and 2025 season with a perfect game through six innings against Charlotte, resulting in a 8-0 victory for the Tigers.
Heavener tallied 13 strikeouts with no hits or walks surrendered, placing her in the LSU softball history books as the first pitcher to record a perfect game in their collegiate debut, and the sixth perfect game in program history.
The Florida native was a major player to watch coming into the 2025 season after a dominant senior season for Pace High School. Heavener led Pace to a win in the 2024 Florida 6A State Championship while becoming the 2024 Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, 2024 Max Prep National Player of the Year and was selected to the 2024 Florida 6A First Team in her senior season.
The Tigers will likely lean on Heavener again this weekend as they host University of Texas at Arlington, Northwestern and Virginia Tech in the Purple & Gold Challenge in Baton Rouge starting Feb. 14.
