With the NFL draft coming up and free agency starting to open, let’s find some potential suitors perfect matches for the 2025-2026 season.
Let’s start with LSU’s very own Will Campbell. Campbell is a left offensive tackle for the Tigers. Measuring at 6-foot-6, 324 pounds, he’s dominant on the field and makes a tough matchup for defensive ends. In his three years with the Tigers, Campbell played 38 games, 2,553 offensive snaps, and only gave up five sacks.
He is one of the top offensive linemen prospects and his perfect match in the NFL will be the number one overall pick, the Tennessee Titans.
The Titans are in desperate need of help. They need an upgrade at just about every position like quarterback, addressing the right side of their offensive line, addressing the front seven, etc., but they’ve been feeling the effects of losing long-time left tackle Taylor Lewan.
Giving up over 3 sacks a game, the Titans had the 6th worst offensive line for the 2024 season. With drafting Campbell, he can provide elite pass protection and buy Will Levis time to read the field and not throw another interception. Campbell would be a great start to the Titans rebuild under 2nd year Head Coach Brian Callahan.
Campbell will be missed by Tiger fans, but Nashville is in for a great left tackle, and I say, this is a perfect match. Now, let’s move onto free agency.
It’s already been a wild off season. From Myles Garrett requesting a trade from the Browns to Rams getting rid of Cooper Kupp, NFL teams have some decisions to make, but that’s where I come in. Let’s find a potential match for Garrett.
With Garrett getting drafted by the Browns as the No. 1 pick in 2017, he has balled out. Standing at 6-foot-4, 271 pounds, he runs through offensive linemen. Garret has played 117 games, recording 250 solo tackles, 102 assist tackles, 102.5 sacks, and 20 forced fumbles. He won Defensive Player of the Year in 2023 and is one of the top defensive players in the NFL.
Since drafting him, the Browns haven’t had anything to show for it. Only having one playoff appearance and winning one playoff game back in 2020, it’s no wonder Garrett wants out. Any of these teams would be lucky to trade for him, but a perfect match would be Garrett going to the Detroit Lions.
The Lions had an impressive 2024 season, ending it with only two losses and securing the No. 1 seed for the NFC, but they would shortly get eliminated by the Washington Commanders in the Divisional Round. The Lions are a great team, but losing 13 starting defensive players to injuries can make a great team crumble.
Adding Garrett to the Lions defensive line could be special. He’s an elite pass rusher and an automatic upgrade. With him there, this could give Aidan Hutchinson some help. While Hutchinson takes care of the left side of the defense, Garrett can take care of the right, which would be a scary sight for opposing teams.
With the Lions losing Defensive Coordinator Aaron Glenn to a Head Coach job with the New York Jets, everything is still in the air, but adding Garrett to the line will make the job easier for new Defensive Coordinator Kelvin Sheppard.
And as Garrett said, “The ultimate goal is to win a Super Bowl,” and he can win it with the Detroit Lions.
