LSU hosted Stanford Thursday for the SEC/ACC Challenge, ultimately defeating the Cardinals 94-88 in overtime.
The Lady Tigers trailed nearly the entire game, but sophomore Mikaylah Williams tied the game at 80 points with four seconds left to send it to overtime.
Williams was LSU’s leading scorer of the night, with 32 points and 9 rebounds.
The Purple and Gold went down early, calling their first timeout down 16-5. Stanford’s shooting was on point, going 5-7 from three in the first quarter.
LSU began cutting the lead into the second quarter, outscoring Stanford 22-11 to bring their deficit to only two points going into the half.
The Cardinals went on a 6-0 run in the third quarter, but junior Flau’jae Johnson kept the Tigers in the game scoring seven points on 3-6 shooting.
With 17 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Tigers were still down by five, but Kailyn Gilbert sunk a three and cut the lead back to only two points.
Williams’ jumper tied the game to send it to overtime, in which she got the first points on the board with a three-pointer. Gilbert extended the lead to four with a free throw and hit another jumper to give LSU an 88-82 lead within the two-minute mark.
Williams cemented the victory with another three-pointer with less than 25 seconds to play, in which the Tigers were able to control the ball.
Williams will return home to Bossier City on Sunday, Dec. 8 to play the Grambling State Tigers at 2 p.m. LSU remains undefeated and ranked No. 5 in the nation.
