LSU Gymnastics took on No.1 Oklahoma last Friday, and beat them. But, to many fans shock, instead of rising in ranking they dropped from No.2 to No.3, which left Head Coach Jay Clark confused.
“At the end of the day, it’ll level itself out,” Clark said.
After such a huge win, the team struggled to recover. Going all out for an entire meet, and giving just a little bit extra is hard. Clark said that the girls had to take an extra day to recover because he saw how drained they were. But, regardless, they were still beyond ecstatic.
“In a perfect world it’s an emotional lift, it’s a confidence builder, maybe a psychological boost,” Clark said.
During warm ups last Friday, Chase Brock, injured herself and was carried off, crying. It was later found out that it was an achilles injury and will be out for the rest of the season. This is hard on Brock as she is a 5th year senior and was starting for the first time.
“It’s an achilles injury, but we will move forward,” Clark said.
With 13,000 fans selling out the stadium on Friday, it helped the Tigers’ confidence and is a standard that should be looked at by other schools.
“What they have helped us create, I hope every recruit in the nation sees and wants to be a part of,” Clark said.
LSU will take on Kentucky on Friday at 6 p.m. in the PMAC.
