The LSU Wind Ensemble performed in the Student Union Theater on Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025.
The final piece of this concert, Music for Prague 1968, is the composer’s response to the invasion of his home country, Czechoslovakia, by the USSR in August of 1968. It is incessant and driving, embodying the tension and strife of this period. It tells the tale of war, violence, determination, and unity, a story that has been retold countless times throughout human history. Performed 3 years and a day after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Music for Prague reflects many of the struggles we face today. Despite attacks on freedom, scientific inquiry, and higher education, it serves as a reminder that the unyielding hope of the people can and will break through any obstacle.
