The Tigers completed their third straight weekend series win after beating North Alabama 11-5 Sunday afternoon; showcasing their skills both offensively and defensively.
In his first at bat, Jared Jones hit a home run setting the tone early in the game, and showing the Lions that they came for a fight.
“I think it’s awesome, it’s really good to pitch when you’re up in the game,” Chase Shores said. “So, if we can get home runs early in the game, like we did on Friday, that was huge for the pitching staff.”
Jones wasn’t the only one hitting home runs for the Tigers. Stephen Milam hit a home run in the fourth inning, and Josh Pearson followed that up with his first career grand slam in the sixth inning.
“I was just looking for a pitch up in the zone that I could drive and he hung me a change up first pitch, and I saw it out of the hand and put a good swing on it,” Josh Pearson said.
Although starting pitcher, Chase Shores, wasn’t pitching with his usual aggressiveness, he still pitched up to pare; only allowing nine hits and 23 at bats.
“He’s the definition of a bend, probably not going to break, pitcher,” Head Coach Jay Johnson said.
“A) because he’s talented and now we are 20 innings into this thing. I think he feels confident in what he’s doing and he’s only one pitch away. He’s hard to get those extra base hits against and when he limits the free passes there’s always a way out with him.”
Shores wasn’t the only one to hit the mound. Connor Benge, Jaden Noot and Chandler Dorsey also made an appearance allowing a total of two hits on a total of 15 at bats.
The Tiger must get their bull pin warmed up early if they want to keep their 11 game win streak increasing. This will be especially important as they gear up to head into conference play next weekend. But they still have one more non conference game against Xavier on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
