LSU students were caught off guard last week when the university announced a 6.2% tuition increase via email.
The sudden hike left many students frustrated and financially strained.
In-state tuition will rise from $11,954 to $12,695 for the 2025-2026 school year. Out-of-state tuition will increase from $28,631 to $30,404.
Some students say they were given no prior warning and are now unsure how they will afford the added costs.
For upperclassmen, the tuition increase feels like another challenge in a system that offers little support beyond freshman year.
“It is very obvious, especially with a lot of the things that they’ve been doing, that once you get past that freshman stage—like sophomore and above—you’re really on your own at that point,” said Brandon Campbell, LSU Financial Aid Student Worker.
With no clear explanation for the increase and no additional financial aid announced, LSU students are calling for more transparency and relief.
