LSU men’s basketball looks to make big splashes in the transfer portal after suffering a highly disappointing 2025 season.
The Tigers finished 15th in the conference with a 14-18 record, going 3-15 in SEC play.
Third-year LSU head coach Matt McMahon has been subject to firing conversations this season. His 45-53 record as a coach in purple and gold has left a lot of fans unsatisfied.
The Tigers took a step back this year after showing progress in 2024, finishing with a 17-16 record and going 9-9 in conference play.
McMahon took over a program in turmoil as LSU was under an NCAA investigation for recruiting violations that led to the program parting ways with previous head coach Will Wade. Wade took the job at McNeese State and has led the Cowboys to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments.
With the growing pressure from fans, the SEC’s rising dominance in the sport, the former coach’s successes and the program being one of the only sports not competing at a high level on campus, the Tigers had to decide on McMahon’s future.
LSU opted to keep McMahon and bolster the program’s NIL budget. The Tigers’ basketball’s NIL budget was reportedly among the lowest in the SEC. It was only higher than South Carolina, who finished dead last in the conference with a 12-20 record while going 2-16 in SEC play.
