LSU Women’s Basketball continues through the NCAA tournament after the 101-71 win against Florida State.
Members of the squad met with the media after the game to break down what worked so well for them in Monday night’s win.
LSU working with their full arsenal this weekend allowed them to reach two 100-point games and bring in the most home wins in program history.
Players like Anessah Morrow, Sa’Myah Smith and Mikaylah Williams putting on show for fans Monday night. The three had a combined 74 points, 24 rebounds and 14 assists showing that it takes a full team effort for a 30-point blowout.
The first half of the game they struggled to contain FSU’s Ta’Niya Latson who leads the country in scoring. Latson brought in 23 points in the first half but the team picked up on her movements quickly and were able to keep her to only seven points in the second half.
“She had a spectacular first half,” Guard Shayeann Day-Wilson said. “So just defensively locking in and me taking it very personal”
As for Sweet 16 appearances Last-Tear Poa, a veteran on this team, has been to three Sweet 16’s with the team. She says the things that worked well for the 2023 National Championship team were preparation and execution.
“We were prepared and obviously executed to the best we could,” Poa said. “So those two and discipline’s our last one, ball reversal helped up a lot as well as playing within each other.”
Monday’s game was the most assists the team has had all season and it seems like the team has reached new high-point this season.
“I feel like us having two weeks to really come together helped,” Day-Wilson said. “Knowing where your teammate wants the ball or underneath the ball, just that execution, who needs the ball at the right times, just the little stuff. I feel like we’re all just coming together as a collective.
The team is one step closer to that final goal of a championship in Tampa. But, they’ll have to get through a few more obstacles before they head to the Sunshine State. LSU heads to Spokane for their matchup against NC State, Friday at 6:30 CT.
