Executive and former six-year NBA forward for the Milwaukee Bucks, Ronald Dupree is returning to alma mater LSU as the general manager of the men’s basketball team after spending eight years with the Bucks front office.
Dupree played for the Tigers during the 1999-2003 seasons where he accomplished SEC All-Tournament (2003), First-Team All-Louisiana Selection (2001, 2002, 2003) and Second-Team All-SEC (2001, 2002, 2003).
During Dupree’s Freshman season he averaged 4.9 points per game and 3.3 rebounds. He played in all 34 games, averaged 5.2 points and 3.9 rebounds in SEC games. Had one double-double in the win over Arkansas on Jan. 26 when he had 16 rebounds to go with 14 points.
In a 21-point effort to open his career versus Grambling State, Dupree hit 8-of-10 field goal attempts, including his only three-pointer. Averaged 13.8 points in the five-game Italian tour in the summer after his freshman year, hitting 49 percent of his field-goal attempts while averaging 9.8 rebounds to lead the team.
During his Sophomore season he started in 28-of-29 games where he averaged 17.3 points, 8.8 rebounds and played an average of 34.9 minutes per game. He led the team in three categories while also leading in the SEC in points scored and was second in rebounds. He was sixth in the league in field goal percentage.
By the end of his Sophomore season he had increased his free throw shooting percentage from 57.4% to 69.9%.
Going into his Junior season, Dupree led his team with 16.2 points per game and 8.5 rebounds. He became the seventh in the league in scoring and second in the league in rebounds for the second year straight. He played and started in all 34 games, and became one of two players to start in all games.
He became third best in the league in double-doubles, tenth in the league in field goal percentage (45.2%) and fifth in percentage in league games only (46.6%).
Dupree finished his career with 1,726 points, which was eighth best at LSU all-time. He had 907 rebounds and was sixth best all-time at LSU. He was one of four players – Shaquille O’Neal, Durand Macklin and Bob Pettit – to finish in the top 10 in both scoring and rebounding.
