Two former LSU women’s basketball players came back to the bayou to debut their reunion on the WNBA Chicago Sky this Friday, and they blew out the Brazil National Team 89-62.
Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith last played together for LSU during the 2024 season, when they were knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Iowa. Reese was drafted no. 7th in the first round to the Chicago Sky, and Van Lith went to play for TCU.
They reunited a few weeks ago when Van Lith was drafted no. 11th overall to the Chicago Sky. Both players seemed happy to be back as they sang “Callin’ Baton Rouge” during pre-game warm ups.
Reece put on a show for her alma mater; she was the lead scorer with 15 points and had eight defensive rebounds. Bayou Barbie was happy to be back playing in the PMAC.
“Just being able to see the legacy I built here…,” Reece said, “and just be loved and supported away from home.”
While Van Lith may have not graduated from LSU, the fanbase welcomed her as if she never left. She played selfless and fearless with seven points, five assists and six total rebounds.
“She was creating for others,’ Head Coach Tyler Ward said, ‘that’s what we thought we were getting when we drafted her, so it was great to see that.”
The Chicago Sky season opener is against the Indiana Fever at Gainbringe Fieldhouse May 17th at 3:00 P.M. This is an anticipated game because it will be a rematch for Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith against Caitlin Clark.
