LSU softball will take on the Florida Gators for their last home weekend of regular-season SEC play, which means it is senior weekend at Tiger Park.
The tradition of senior weekend for Tiger softball began in 2003 against Southern Mississippi. Softball celebrates the seniors’ accomplishments by honoring them in their last regular-season game.
The 2025 LSU softball team has five seniors to honor throughout the weekend:
Danieca Coffey
No. 13 Danieca Coffey is a redshirt senior and a star-studded third baseman for LSU. She was the No. 17 recruit in the 2020 recruiting class, according to FloSoftball.
Coming into the extremely loaded Tiger roster in 2021, she caused problems for what many assumed to be an already established and gelled lineup. Coffey snuck her way into a position at second base as a freshman and caused some good problems for head coach Beth Torina and her staff.
Torina said that during the 2021 preseason, the defense couldn’t get Coffey out at practice. She has continued to grow in her game at LSU, going from a speedy leadoff hitter to someone who can produce power when needed.
On March 2, 2024, Coffey collided with the catcher at home plate. She tore her ACL. Coffey was out for the rest of the 2024 season.
Since returning in 2025, she hasn’t slacked up one bit. She is the seventh player in program history to become a two-time SEC Player of the Week.
Coffey has contributed to the goofiness in the dugout, leading to the Tigers’ motto being “can’t beat crazy” for the season. She has been a primitive leader this season on a primarily young team.
McKenzie Redoutey
No. 4 McKenzie Redoutey has been a fixture in the lineup for four years as an LSU softball player. She has played right field for the Tigers for her entire career and has done well on both sides.
Redoutey would put runs on the scoreboard in big moments as early as her freshman year. Against Oklahoma State in the St. Pete Clearwater Invitational in 2022, Redoutey blasted her first home run. The shot was big, rounding up three runs for LSU in a previously tight ballgame.
On the defensive side, Redoutey has also put up several gems to help out the Tigers. She has made several plays to throw runners out. Most recently, she ended the game versus McNeese on Tuesday by throwing a runner out at the plate.
It’s not just dominance versus non-conference teams. Against South Carolina in Game 1, she threw out a runner at third base to save a Gamecock run.
Before stepping onto the field at Tiger Park, she was awarded significant accolades to hold to. Redoutey was a Top 10 player in the 2021 recruiting class, and it is safe to say she hasn’t slacked up yet.
Madilyn Giglio
No. 9 Madilyn Giglio was mainly used as a pinch runner as a Tiger, and is a homegrown LSU athlete.
Giglio is from Metairie, Louisiana, and she has been at LSU all four years she has played college softball. Giglio has seven stolen bases in nine attempts in her career.
Emilee Casanova
No. 10 Emilee Casanova is a redshirt senior from Amite, Louisiana. She was used sparingly throughout her five years at LSU as a pitcher.
Casanova has never made more than four starts in a complete season, but Torina has highly praised her. She said she puts in hard work and is a great teammate.
“[Casanova] has added some pieces this offseason, worked really hard,” Torina said. “She’s truly the player that does everything right. She deserves a great season, so I know everyone is pulling for her.”
Ashley Vallejo
No. 5 Ashley Vallejo is a transfer from McNeese, where she is coming off of several accolades. She led the Cowgirls to three regular-season Southland Conference titles.
The McNeese staff trusted her in big moments. In 2023, she pitched 6.2 innings in the Regional Final to try and push through Washington, the host team. The Cowgirls were one out away from hosting a Super Regional in Lake Charles, but the Huskies scored seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take the regional.
She has been used sparingly at LSU, but most notably, she started against Alabama in Game 3 of the Bayou brawl. Vallejo has also been used significantly in relief efforts in SEC play. She has thrown 7.2 innings in relief throughout three games.
Despite the young class of the 2025 LSU softball team, these five seniors have worked to lead this inexperienced team in times of need. Senior weekend for these women will be competitive versus Florida and hopefully be a happy time to celebrate their accomplishments as softball players.
The Tigers will play the Gators in Game 1 of senior weekend on Saturday, April 26, at 1 p.m. CDT at Tiger Park.
