LSU Track and Field hosted their Fastest Tiger on Campus student race on Saturday afternoon at Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
Several heats of students raced in three categories: Fastest Woman on Campus, Fastest Man on Campus and Fastest Greek on Campus.
LSU student Jakayla Brooks took home the Fastest Woman on Campus title after running the fastest female time in her respective heat and overall, a moment she said she had been praying for.
“A year ago today during my senior year I injured my hamstring and I haven’t been able to run,” Brooks said. “When I was stressing, I asked God for a sign if I should keep training and keep running, then ‘Boom,’ I got a email two days later to come run a 50 meter.”
While some students were former athletes and participated in similar activities throughout high school, some were simply enjoying the opportunity to run on LSU’s track.
For LSU student Adam Brown, he had not been a track athlete in high school but enjoyed the event nonetheless.
“It’s kind of cool being out here with everybody,” Brown said. “It was just overall good vibes and a cool experience.
The winners of each category walked away from the track with not only a Mike the Tiger-inspired trophy, but with an LSU Track and Field bag stuffed with sports gear.
“The biggest takeaway was how out of shape I was,” LSU student Ashinaye Dickenson admitted. “I was not prepared, but I just had fun.”
LSU Track and Field will host another home meet next Saturday as they continue to prepare for SEC Championships and the remainder of the postseason.
