LSU shortstop Steven Milam has officially removed his name from the 2026 MLB Draft, confirming his return to LSU for the 2027 season.
Milam will return as one of college baseball’s most elite infield defenders, bringing needed experience and depth to the Tigers roster.
“Monster” Milam has been a defensive rock for the Tigers. In his last two seasons as a shortstop, he committed only nine errors in 448 chances. Milam has a career .305 batting average for LSU, with an OPS of .924 proving he is just as reliable at-bat as he is in the infield.
Milam saw his name on Baseball America’s Top 200 Prospects for the MLB Draft list, as well as Perfect Game’s Top 100 Juniors after the 2026 season. After helping the Tigers secure the National Championship in 2025, he was named to the 2025 College World Series All-Tournament Team.
Jay Johnson is working to rebuild his team after the less than ideal 2026 season where the Tigers went 9-21 in SEC play, missing the NCAA post season for the first time since 2011. Johnson has already signed four players in the portal, and it’s been evident for the last few weeks that keeping Milam was at the top of Johnson’s priorities.
Milam will serve as a key veteran to LSU’s roster as they embark on the road to redemption for 2027.
