LSU track & field junior Matthew Sophia was named the SEC Runner of the Week after competing at the LSU Alumni Gold meet.

Sophia claimed gold over the weekend in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.31 seconds. His new time boosts him to rank fifth in the NCAA and fourth in the SEC.

This is Sophia’s second career weekly conference honor. His previous award came when he was a freshman.

LSU track and field’s next event is the LSU invitational at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on May 3 at 10 a.m. This is LSU’s last meet before they go to SEC championships on May 15.
