September is National Library Card Month and libraries across Baton Rouge are encouraging people to sign up for one.
A library card is not just something that you can use to buy books. The library offers different services such as DVDs, magazines, movies, audiobooks and even blood pressure cups.
You also have access to the free public computer, study rooms, and free printing. You can even use the cricut if you are into making arts and crafts.
Assistant Library Director Mary Stein tells us all the reasons why people should come to the library.
“Your card is that all-access pass for those things. You can check out a meeting room, as I mentioned, for your nonprofit group, your club, or organization. And if the rooms aren’t in use, you can drop in and study—that’s on a drop-in basis.” Stein said.
To obtain a library card, these are the 3 things you need: You must be over the age of 18, live in East Baton Rouge Parish, but if you are a mobile student must show proof of enrollment, and some sort of identification.
You can also apply for a library card as an out of parish member because they want everybody to have the opportunity to use the resources available.
“Also we want to be there for all the things after school. We will be here for you from the cradle to the gray.” Stein said.
