The talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, was suspended indefinitely off of ABC on Sept. 17, 2025 after the host, Jimmy Kimmel, made a comment on air about the late Charlie Kirk. The network made statements saying they do not condone the comments that Kimmel made, and that is not what they stand for.
Kimmel was asked numerous times to put out an apology, the network even said they would renew the show if he made a public apology, but Kimmel stood firm on his comment. He claims that he was allowed to say whatever he wanted on his show, and his comment falls under his First Amendment right of free speech.
Many fans were upset to see Kimmel leave, but supported his decision in standing firm on his comment, while other fans were shocked and angered by his comments on Kirk.
On Sept. 23, 2025 ABC announced that Jimmy Kimmel Live would make a return, after just five days of suspension. Kimmel has yet to make an apology. But fans were happy to see the return of their beloved talk show.
Students at LSU were asked what their thoughts on the return were. Many reminisced on their favorite memories watching Kimmel, one student even recounted a time when they were a kid and would watch the show with their mom. Another student remembered a time when their favorite celebrity, Ariana Grande, made an appearance on the show.
Most students were happy about the return and supported Kimmel on him standing his ground, and they believed that at the end of it all, he was protected by his First Amendment right.
