Brian Kelly spoke to the media about LSU Football coming off a bye week and taking on the South Carolina Gamecocks this Saturday.
“This is about playing more consistent football offensively for four quarters,” Kelly said.
Kelly talked about how inconsistent the Tiger offense has been. Garrett Nussmeier is averaging around 100 less passing yards each game than last season, which could be a side effect of his torso injury.
The injury should not be an issue going into the game on Saturday as Nussmeier took this week to rest and recover.
“He’s feeling better and better. You know, we did not do a lot with him last week. We wanted to use that as a recovery week for him,” said Coach Kelly. “Obviously, he did a lot withVR, stayed involved in everything that we were doing, run game checks, blitz checks, things of that nature, but we just cut them down.”
On the defensive side, South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers had a field day last year against the Bayou Bandits. Kelly is confident the defense can contain him and force him to throw the ball this time around.
“He operates best when he’s outside the pocket. So, discipline in our pass rush lanes. You know, having a solid scheme up front to take away the quarterback run.”
As far as injury updates, Kelly said Caden Durham, Weston Davis and Garrett Nussmeier are all good to go for Saturday. Paul Mubenga is questionable and Aaron Anderson is probable.
