With a new season on the horizon and fresh additions to the team, the LSU Women’s Basketball team speaks with the press on what this season means to them.
“Once we got on the court, we really didn’t miss a beat,” Mikaylah Williams said.
The Tigers welcome MiLaysia Fulwiley as their new addition who transferred from South Carolina to join the team. Fulwileyas explained why she chose LSU by stating her commitment to ongoing development.
“I knew I needed a change of scenery and felt like the culture is just different here. I felt like I was kind of in a slump and I needed to show myself that I can get better and it wasn’t going to work there,” Fulwiley said.
She stated that she needs to improve her skills because she has not reached her desired level. The demanding approach of Head Coach Kim Mulkey makes sense to Fulwiley because the team puts in extensive work during practice sessions.
The team displayed instant cohesion between their veteran players and their new recruits during their first practice session. Mikaylah Williams noted “Once we got on the court, we really didn’t miss a beat.”
Looking ahead to future aspirations, Flau’Jae Johnson addressed the WNBA draft with ambition. “I want to be the number one pick but I gotta work for that,” Johnson said. “I want to go somewhere where they want to play me and where they want to develop me.”
Johnson also praises the dedication of this new team. “We want the best players ever playing at the PMAC. Everyone comes to the voluntary sessions and that’s big for our program.”
With players constantly putting in the work, this team has a bright future ahead.
Kailyn Gilbert expressed the team’s shared objective to win the national championship while Grace Knox and other players explained how their off-court relationships strengthen their on-court performance.
The foundation has been laid, and the potential is immense. This team embodies the spirit of LSU – grit, passion, and an unwavering commitment to each other. They’re ready to face the challenges ahead, to learn from every experience, and to give their absolute best Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 7 p.m. against Mississippi College.
