LSU Football Interim Head Coach Frank Wilson spoke to the media on Monday afternoon following the 20-9 loss to Alabama.
In Wilson’s opening statement he addressed the decision to go for it in the last two minutes of the second quarter, instead of running the clock out. He wanted to go into halftime with the lead, and he wanted the touchdown. It was a risk he was willing to take and thought the offense could execute.
After the Tigers failed to get a first down, Alabama had enough time to score a touchdown.
“We’re going to march down the field, and we’re going to get points,” Wilson told the team during halftime.
The Tigers did convert points, but they did not score touchdowns. Wilson knows this will not be acceptable against a very explosive Arkansas offense, if he wants to give his team a chance to win the game.
“We’ll have to score touchdowns with this guy. That’ll have to happen. That’s a non-negotiable, because they can score.”
Coach Wilson concluded the press conference with a rally cry” for his Tiger fans.
“We can’t do it without you. You’re the best fans in America. You love and you
love hard, and we respect that you have great expectations, and we’re trying to meet
those expectations because so do we.”
Wilson also told the Tiger faithful to start tailgating the night before, if they do not want to wake up early. He even said he would do a “check-in” to see how many fans were tailgating.
