The Baton Rouge Goodwood Library’s programs and quiet study spaces allow for visitors and students to find serenity and peace.
Daily visitor, Lucas Crane, says the library is where, “I spend a good portion of my week, it’s kind of a spot to have some silence and chill time.”
Beyond unwinding and relaxing, it’s also a great place to study. Students were throughout the library from schools like Baton Rouge Community College, Southern University, and Louisiana State University.
Amarie Askins, a BRCC student, finds that the library is calmer than a school setting. “I’m comfortable here, I can study here, focus here.”
LSU student Maddie Stephens, who was studying for an exam and was enjoying the area outside, finds that the change of scenery is what makes Goodwood such an engaging library. “It’s very nice, I like it. Just the outside of the building looks very expensive, so hopefully I can come back and see what it’s like.”
The first step of involvement is simply showing up. Beyond using the library to relax and study, Programs Coordinator Brandon Reilly says that showing up to the events that the library offers “brings people that are like-minded and sometimes people that aren’t like-minded into a common area where they can sit and calmly experience different ideas and see what people’s different responses are to things.”
The Goodwood Library is open seven days a week. The hours are Monday through Thursday operating from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
