Louisiana lawmaker proposes a bill to allow the carrying of guns on college campuses.

On Monday, February 9, Rep. Danny McCormick introduced HB99– a bill that proposes allowing the carrying of guns on some campuses by anyone over the age of 18 who can legally possess a firearm.

If it becomes law, it will apply to public colleges and universities, as well as privately owned and operated higher-education institutions that receive state funding.

A few restrictions may apply if the bill is approved. The bill states that guns would not be allowed inside active disciplinary or administrative hearings, medical or mental health treatment centers operated by a college or university, and locations where firearms are restricted under federal law.

The Regular Legislative Session in Louisiana is currently scheduled to convene at noon on March 9 to discuss initial stances on the bill.
