On Tuesday, the Southeastern Conference recognized four players on the LSU women’s basketball team after announcing its end-of-year conference awards.
MiLaysia Fulwiley won the conference’s Sixth Woman of the Year after averaging 14.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.1 steals per game through 30 games this season.
Fulwiley won the award last year with South Carolina and has now made it back-to-back seasons.
She now joins previous Tigers such as Sylvia Fowles in 2005 and Allison Hightower in 2008 to have won the award for LSU.
The spark she’s provided for the Tigers has been immense all season on both sides of the ball. She led LSU in scoring, and to end the regular season, she averaged 20.5 points in the final four games while shooting 10-for-20 (50%) from the three-point line.
She has also solidified herself as one of the nation’s best defenders, leading her team in steals and blocks (1.4 per game).
For the All-SEC Honors, it was senior Flau’jae Johnson and junior Mikaylah Williams who earned spots on the All-SEC First team.
Johnson finished the regular season averaging 13.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game, and Williams averaged 13.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists during the regular season.
It’s Johnson’s third straight selection for the All-SEC team after making the Second Team in her sophomore season and making the First Team a year ago. For Williams, it’s also two consecutive years in a row appearing on the All-SEC First Team.
Williams ended the regular season with three consecutive double-doubles, including a 26-point and 15-rebound performance against Mississippi State in the regular season finale.
Johnson continues to impact the game in multiple ways, whether she’s scoring 20 points or four points. Being one of two seniors to enter with head coach Kim Mulkey, she’s solidified herself as one of LSU’s greats.
Freshman forward ZaKiyah Johnson earned a spot on the All-SEC Freshman Team, averaging 10.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The Kentucky native also started 18 games in her first season with the Tigers.
Whether she starts or comes off the bench, ZaKiyah has been one of LSU’s key contributors. From her tenacity on the glass to her versatility on offense, she’s played nothing like a freshman.
She is now the ninth LSU player to be named to the All-SEC Freshman team.
