Louisiana’s spring season has fully commenced, and some traditional city events are starting to bloom again.
On April 10th, Rhorer Plaza — right in front of Baton Rouge’s City Hall — was lit up with the sounds of the Michael Foster Project — signaling the beginning of the city’s Live After Five.
“Live After 5 is Baton Rouge and downtown Baton Rouge’s longest standing free concert series. Six shows in the spring – coming right up this Friday, April 10th – and six shows in the fall as well. But just a staple here in Baton Rouge. It’s been around since the late ‘90s – early 2000s,” said J. Hover, Managing Director for Live After Five.
That’s right, Live After Five requires no ticket purchasing for entry. It’s a free event that allows city dwellers to listen to the different music genres that Louisiana provides.
“Michael Foster Project, just legendary Baton Rouge brass bands. The weather, so far it’s looking like this, we expect a huge crowd to kick off for our 2026 spring series,” said Hover.
Along with live music performances, Live After Five offers various other activities — including obstacle courses, line dances, several food vendors and even performances from the students of Baton Rouge Music Studios.
“ Yeah, we got a bunch of great food vendors. We’ve got kids’ activities. We’re trying to re-incorporate some [Midcity] Makers Market and artists this year as well. So, a family-friendly, free event,” Hover.
So, if you’re looking for a free community event to occupy your Friday nights this season, check out Live After Five.
