LSU baseball pitcher Cooper Moore will miss the rest of the season with an arm injury, head coach Jay Johnson said on his radio show Monday evening.
Moore, a right-handed pitcher, established himself as LSU’s second best starting arm in his first year as a Tiger after transferring from Kansas.
His injury will require surgery, but Moore is already committed to returning to LSU for 2027.
The junior logged a 3.38 ERA across six appearances, throwing 32 innings as LSU’s Saturday starting pitcher.
He has not pitched since LSU’s third SEC series against Oklahoma in March. In his final appearance, he was pulled after delivering an errant pitch to open the fifth inning.
Since then, Moore has dealt with tricep soreness.
Johnson was optimistic about Moore returning to the mound in time for the weekend’s series against Texas A&M.
That timetable didn’t prove correct, and Moore will be sidelined for the rest of the year. He’ll be able to claim a medical redshirt and will return for the 2027 season still classified as a junior.
Moore’s absence has left a significant hole in LSU’s rotation. The Tigers, whose third starter spot was still up in the air prior to Moore’s injury, have won just one Saturday game in four attempts since he went down.
The loss is a huge blow for a LSU side that must win at least eight of its final 12 SEC games to have a chance at an NCAA Tournament berth.
But now, it’ll have to do it without a key piece of its pitching staff.
