The LSU Baseball team took down the Southeastern Lions Tuesday night in the Box by a score of 12-4.
Offensively the Tigers racked up 12 hits and were spraying hard-hit balls all over the field.
Individually, LSU was led by sophomore Derek Curiel who tallied three extra base hits including two doubles and a home run. Along with Curiel, another key contributor was freshman Jack Ruckert who had two RBI on two doubles.
On the mound for LSU, although they still got the win, it was not pretty. The achilles heel for the LSU staff during their SEC struggles has been walks and hit batsmen. This theme continued tonight as the Tigers surrendered six walks and hit four batters.
With this, LSU was down 4-2 early in the game, but the pitching staff was able to dial in and give the offense a chance to put up crooked numbers, which they did.
This victory snaps a three game losing streak for the Tigers as over the weekend the team got swept by Mississippi State. Unfortunately for the Tigers, they still hold a nine game SEC losing streak as their post-season hopes are dwindling.
The team’s next opportunity to break this ugly streak will be against the South Carolina Gamecocks in a three game set beginning on Friday at Alex Box Stadium.
