LSU Parking and Transportation announced its updated Park & Geaux program on Tuesday. The program, which aims to make transportation for students accessible and affordable, will open its new Mobility Hub in the fall.
Park & Geaux was first launched by LSU in 2019 as part of its Mobility Implementation Plan, a main goal of LSU’s overall Master Plan. Parking has long been an issue on campus as higher enrollment leads to scarcer parking spots. LSU’s solution to this problem is to create more parking on the outskirts of campus and to use a shuttle system, or Park & Geaux buses, to take students to and from campus.
This program is available to anyone, regardless of what parking permit they have. The Park & Geaux annual permit costs $50 for students and faculty, and $75 for campus partners and non-affiliates. This plan is cheaper than residential and commuter parking passes, which typically cost $182 when sales first open in July.
Park & Geaux also boasts its quick commute times, averaging at around 10 minutes to complete a route, according to LSU Parking and Transportation. Along their routes, the shuttles stop at key locations around campus, including the Student Union, Patrick F. Taylor Hall and Lockett Hall.
The service also runs all day, beginning at 6 a.m. and ending at 10 p.m. Commuters can park anywhere on campus with a Park & Geaux permit after 4:30 p.m., and on-demand services are available after 5 p.m. through the TransLoc app.
In addition to these pre-existing services, the program will also open its new Park & Geaux Mobility Hub in the fall. This much-anticipated addition will give users reprieve from the Baton Rouge weather with air-conditioned seating, complete with vending machines, restrooms and information screens, according to Parking and Transportation.
All parking permits will go on sale at the beginning of July. For more information about Park & Geaux, visit LSU’s Parking and Transportation website.
