The Next Step candidates took a trip to the University Court on Thursday night to address a complaint made by a concerned student about banners hung in Bogies bar.
The anonymous student complainant, represented by solicitor general Jack Zeringue, thought The Next Step was throwing a party sponsored by Bogies.
Campaign manager Jackson Voss said The Next Step did not receive any money from Bogies; they only received permission to hang banners in the bar.
Voss also said there is nothing in the election code against banners hanging inside a bar.
Chief justice Brianna Crabtree brought up a Facebook post by a student that said they had fun celebrating The Next Step and thanked Bogies for the support.
Crabtree asked why the support part of the post was deleted hours later.
Campaign manager Gabriel Stelly said the student was excited and didn’t mean to imply a sponsorship.
The court voted that The Next Step did not violate the election code. The ruling was 3-4-2. Three said it was a violation, four said it wasn’t and two were abstentions.
