Jamiroquai is a British funk and acid jazz band formed in 1992 by lead singer Jay Kay. The name of the band originates from “Jam Sessions” and the Native American Iroquois tribe. Jamiroquai’s first single, “When You Gonna Learn” was released in 1992 on the Acid Jazz label. Following its release the group was signed by Sony Music Entertainment and landed an eight-album record deal. The First Sony album was Emergency on Planet Earth and was released in 1993.Jamiroquai’s members have changed through out the years but have still been lead by Jay Kay since 1992.
Jason Luís Cheetham also known as Jay Kay was born December 30th 1969 in Stretford, Lancashire, England. Jay Kay is well known for being an energetic and enthusiastic front man wearing an array of elaborate feather headdress. Jamiroquai has sold over thirty million albums, and has spent a collective 162 weeks on the UK singles charts. They have successfully solidified themselves as a staple in funk and dance music world wide having numerous number one hits in Europe, The United States and Japan.
