Friends of the LSU Libraries Book Bazaar was held last Thursday, Friday and Saturday. This event has been going on for almost 40 years and with each year, the Bazaar only gets bigger.
Over the three day period, all of the Baton Rouge community came to check out all the books. This year, the community donated over 65 thousand books to the Bazaar.
“The books range from 50 cents to six to 10 dollars. In the collection section we have some really rare things- some first edition and special things and they will go as high has 100 dollars or more,” Pat Hoth said who is in charge of the cook books and hospitality for the Book Bazaar.
These books range from religion to cook books to history books to fiction books and even text books
“They’re not going to be the latest editions, but they will be usable and we have a text book section. We have lots of students who buy text books from us. So we’re pretty current I think,” Hoth said.
All the books for the Bazaar are donated from the Baton Rouge community. They receive books from the average person on the street to the LSU Press to the West Baton Rouge Library. The workers are all unpaid volunteers who have a passion for books.
“Next year we will celebrate our 40th anniversary and we’re looking forward to it. And we’re all crazy, but we like it,” Hoth said.
